Microsoft's virtual intern Teams Facilitator will be late for the meeting

Microsoft has delayed the release of its Teams Facilitator AI assistant, originally planned for June, to November. The virtual assistant, designed to join meetings, track agendas, and provide notes, is intended to answer questions if it detects knowledge gaps. However, Microsoft has faced challenges in making the feature generally available, with previous anticipated rollouts in July, August, and September also failing to materialize.

The exact reason for the delay remains unclear, but it may be due to difficulties in accurately determining when a pause in conversation signifies a question needing an answer. Another possibility is that search results provided by the assistant may not align with the meeting's context. Microsoft has not provided a clear explanation for the holdup.

Privacy concerns are also a factor, as the feature requires real-time processing of meeting conversations, raising questions about data handling and AI capabilities. While the feature is expected to be available only in Microsoft 365 Copilot's premium version, users can disable web search to avoid any responses. The delay, while potentially beneficial, may be frustrating for users eager to interact with the perky virtual assistant.
