Manitoba Hydro CEO steps down for personal reasons after 2 years

Manitoba Hydro has announced that its chief executive officer, Allan Danroth, has resigned from the organization after two years in the position. The decision to step down is attributed to personal reasons. The province’s Crown-owned energy corporation has appointed Hal Turner, currently the chief operating officer, to serve as the interim CEO during the search for Danroth’s replacement.

It is worth noting that Turner held the interim CEO position before Danroth’s appointment. Danroth succeeded Jay Grewal, who left his role four months after the Manitoba New Democrats secured victory in the 2023 provincial election. The departure of Danroth occurs as the utility embarks on a $3-billion project to build a natural gas-fired power plant, a venture that has faced criticism from environmental advocates.

During a recent hearing before the Manitoba Public Utilities Board, Danroth disclosed that he had received "credible threats" and that misinformation had led to hostility towards the utility.
