‘Let MACC, AGC look into it’: Anwar leaves Saravanan’s letter to authorities

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stated he will allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) to investigate allegations made in a letter by MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan. The allegations link Anwar to the recruitment of foreign workers. Anwar said he would refer the letter's contents to the appropriate authorities to ensure an investigation and potential prosecution occur under their respective jurisdictions.

He emphasized that he should not get involved in the matter, saying it is not his business to make any conclusions about the allegations. Anwar performed Friday prayers at Masjid Sembilang in Seberang Jaya and urged all parties to allow the investigation and prosecution process to continue without drawing premature conclusions. Saravanan, who is also Tapah MP, had expressed regret over the baseless allegations from MACC.

He denied any involvement in the recruitment of foreign workers, stating that he himself had never been personally involved and that no family members were involved during his tenure. He also pointed to a Cabinet memorandum dated April 13, 2022, which clarified that the Human Resources Minister does not have the authority to approve foreign worker recruitment.

Saravanan also mentioned that a special one-stop centre involving multiple ministries would be established to expedite the recruitment process.
