Lebanon claims US ambassador Michel Issa ready to meet with Hezbollah, US official denies

Lebanon's press claims that US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa is prepared to meet with Hezbollah, yet a US official refutes the report. Issa himself denied any ongoing discussions with the group on Wednesday, but suggested he would be open to speaking with Hezbollah if it had something valuable to share.

In July, the United States implemented fresh sanctions against Hezbollah while redefining its designation as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization. This move underscores the group's ties to the Iranian regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force. It is worth noting that the sanctions list does not include Hezbollah, which was already designated for these reasons in 2001 and is classified as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the US.

Meanwhile, Israel sent a message to the US through secure channels, expressing disappointment with the Lebanese army's performance against Hezbollah. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have criticized the Lebanese army's efforts, claiming they are inadequate in targeting Hezbollah's infrastructure and operatives in the southern Lebanese region.

The IDF's assessments suggest that Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Rodolphe Haykal continues to collaborate with Hezbollah, hesitates to confront the organization's commanders in the south, and fails to locate terrorist infrastructure or weapons caches.
