CENTCOM chief: Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes now free of Iranian mines

Iranian Supreme National Security Council head Mohsen Rezaei stated on Thursday that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is contingent upon ending conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza. He emphasized that if the United States desires to reopen the strait, they must commit to this condition. Mediators have requested that Iran present its conditions for reopening the strait, according to Rezaei. Iran is currently preparing a list of conditions for reopening the strait after mediators asked Tehran to do so, he added.

Rezaei mentioned that ending the regional war is one of Iran's conditions for reopening the strait. He also revealed that Iran and Oman have agreed on a shipping corridor through the strait, with portions of the route in Omani waters and portions in Iranian waters. Ships would utilize a designated central channel if the US fulfills Iran's conditions, he stated.

On Wednesday, a senior source claimed that Iran and Oman were still working on the agreement's specifics after Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced their agreement on sharing control of the strait and its revenues. The Guards spokesperson stated that Iran would not permit the strait to reopen unless Washington lifted what Tehran considers a blockade of Iranian ports, while also providing compensation and lifting sanctions.

Rezaei also dismissed allegations of a plot to assassinate Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron Trump, as false. The US Secret Service had previously acknowledged being aware of a video on Iranian state television discussing such a plot.
