LASRRA warns agents against charging residents for registration

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has cautioned its registration agents against charging residents for the LASRRA registration process. The agency's General Manager, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, emphasized that the registration is completely free and urged residents to report any agent demanding payment. She stated that LASRRA operates a zero-tolerance policy towards agents collecting money and has a sign at every station stating that the service is free.

The agency has intensified community-based registration efforts, visiting communities, schools, and vaccination clinics rather than waiting for residents to come to its offices. Registration begins from birth, and the agency has upgraded its software and devices to register newborns electronically. LASRRA has also begun working with the Office of Education Quality Assurance to extend registration to private schools.

The agency aims to increase the number of registered residents and provide 50 slots at the ongoing Lagos State Trade Fair for registered residents to demonstrate the benefits of the service. The monarch of Okun Ajah Kingdom, Oba Kolawole Olumegbon, praised LASRRA for its sensitization campaign and noted that registration has improved infrastructure development in the area.

He emphasized the importance of the registration for the government to understand residents' welfare needs and plan accordingly.
