Landtagswahl: Politiker fordern Verbotsverfahren gegen Sachsen-Anhalt-AfD

Stuttgart - Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) and Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Cem Özdemir (Green) are advocating for a ban procedure against the AfD, even though it might only affect a few state organizations. In a guest column for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" (FAS), written just days before the Landtag election in Saxony-Anhalt, they strongly urge the introduction of a ban procedure, focusing on the openly nationalist state organizations of the AfD in Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Brandenburg.

According to the duo, such a procedure is legally possible, backed by evidence, and constitutionally mandated. Özdemir and Pistorius trust that the Federal Constitutional Court will make the right decisions independently and forcefully. They differentiate between a German-national and a nationalist faction of the AfD. The German-national wing could potentially be compatible with the Basic Law and must be combated in parliament and society.

However, the nationalist faction openly challenges the constitutional foundations and despises democracy, the politicians argue. Countering the völkisch ideology cannot be done through political debate, as Özdemir and Pistorius believe. They insist that the AfD will continue to conceal its nationalist faction and relativize or reinterpret the positions of its nationalist supporters.
