Kulai crash death reclassified as murder; 13 suspects arrested including minors

Johor Bahru police have arrested 13 individuals, including a 15-year-old girl, in connection with the reclassified murder of a 17-year-old girl in Kulai on Tuesday. Initial reports indicated the incident was a road accident, but authorities now believe it was a deliberate act, according to Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.

The victim, a passenger in a black Perodua Myvi, was thrown from the vehicle after being struck by a black Toyota Vellfire at the Lingkaran Bulatan Persiaran Indahpura 4 intersection around 12.38 am. The Vellfire fled the scene following the collision, leading to the victim's death at the scene. Police have issued seven arrests on August 25 and 26, followed by five more arrests on August 27 in Johor Bahru and Selangor.

Nine of the suspects have prior criminal records, and drug tests on all 13 suspects yielded negative results. Police have seized multiple vehicles and weapons during the investigation, which is being handled under Sections 302 and 148 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. The motive remains unclear but is suspected to be linked to a dispute between two secret society groups in the Johor Bahru area.
