KPDN seizes licences from two premises over misleading price tags in Kuching

KUCHING, Aug 28: The ministry responsible for domestic trade and the cost of living in Sarawak, known as KPDN, has taken away the business permits from two locations due to the display of false price tags on their products. Matthew Dominic Barin, the director of KPDN Sarawak, revealed that these infractions were identified during routine checks at various establishments here on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred at around 11:22 am at a shop in Sejingkat. A customer noticed that the merchant was charging RM13.20 for a product, while the price displayed was RM11.50. Despite the customer pointing out the discrepancy, the merchant was unwilling to sell the item at the actual price. As a result, the enforcement team removed the business ordinance licence, four sales receipts, one price tag, and one promotional price tag for further investigation.

The second offense was discovered at 12:43 pm at another location in Kuching. This establishment was found to be in violation of the provisions under the Consumer Protection Act 1999. Consequently, the enforcement team seized the business ordinance licence, along with a pair of shoes priced at RM29.90. Both cases are currently under investigation under Section 12(1)(a) of the Act.
