KP Announces EV Bike Scheme for Women

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to launch an electric bike scheme specifically for women, with college and university students and employed women eligible to receive the bikes. Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi highlighted the initiative during the 57th meeting of the provincial cabinet. Eligible women will receive electric bikes on a strictly merit-based basis across the province.

The government aims to begin the first phase of the EV bike scheme soon, though specifics regarding the number of bikes, eligibility criteria, application process, and exact launch date have not been disclosed. Following the EV bike scheme, the provincial government will introduce an electric rickshaw scheme, which Afridi described as an important step towards promoting a cleaner and greener environment in the province.

Additionally, the chief minister directed authorities to expedite work on an electric bus scheme for divisional headquarters across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These initiatives are part of the provincial government's efforts to promote the use of electric vehicles while offering women additional transportation options.
