Kentucky woman indicted on charges she damaged the World War II Memorial in Washington

A Kentucky woman, Melissa Farris, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly damaging the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Farris is accused of spray painting the words "Clean hands dirty $" on the monument and filling a fountain with bubbles on August 13. She has been charged with two felony counts of destroying the veterans' memorial and destroying government property.

Farris, who is from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was released after her initial court appearance on August 17. President Donald Trump posted about the damage to the memorial on social media, referencing his claims of vandals damaging the nearby Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. However, the Justice Department later moved to dismiss the case against a former Olympian who was initially charged for the damage to the Reflecting Pool, stating that evidence refuted the idea of vandals being responsible.
