Kentucky woman indicted on charges she damaged the World War II Memorial in Washington

A Kentucky woman, Melissa Farris, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly damaging the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. The indictment stems from her actions on August 13th. She faces two felony charges: destroying the veterans' memorial and destroying government property. Farris is accused of spray painting the words "Clean hands dirty $" on the monument and filling a fountain with bubbles.

She was released after her initial court appearance on August 17th. President Donald Trump expressed concern about the damage on his social media platform, likening it to previous incidents at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. However, a former Olympian previously charged with damaging the Reflecting Pool had his case dismissed by the Justice Department due to conflicting evidence.
