Karnataka techie living in Australia missing after Nepal floods, last seen at border

Rakesh Nayak, a 45-year-old software engineer from Karnataka, has gone missing after flash floods hit Nepal. He was last seen near the Nepal-China border, having arrived at an immigration office there on August 26 at around 9:10 pm. The floods occurred just 20 minutes later, trapping Nayak inside the immigration office. His family has been unable to reach him since the incident, and they have been in contact with the Indian Embassy and other officials to find his whereabouts.

The Isha Foundation, which was organizing Nayak's trip, is also trying to locate him. The family was initially informed that he and others were safe, but this has since been disproven. Nayak was using a different SIM card to communicate with his wife due to his regular SIM not working in the region. His last conversation with his wife was on August 25.

At least 13 people from Karnataka are currently stranded in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region, with many of them being foreign tourists, including trekkers and Hindu pilgrims who visited Mount Kailash. The death toll in Nepal has risen to 469, with the disaster being attributed to a glacial collapse sending a massive flow of icy debris through the affected region.
