Go through missing persons’ reports, coordinate with cops: Chief Secy tells DMs to identify Delhiites missing after Nepal flash flood

Delhi Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma has instructed district magistrates to collaborate with the Delhi Police in investigating missing persons reports following the recent Nepal flash floods, which have claimed over 359 lives and left thousands, including 290 Indians, missing. District magistrates have been tasked with contacting private tour operators to identify Delhi residents who traveled to Nepal and whether they have filed any missing person complaints.

A statement from the Chief Minister's Office revealed that a group of 25 people from Delhi had visited Mansarovar before the disaster and had returned safely. However, the Delhi government is actively seeking information about those who went on personal tours, as no missing person complaints have been received so far.

The Delhi Transport department has suspended bus services between Delhi and Kathmandu due to the catastrophic flash floods. The Indo-Nepal Maitri Bus Sewa, a government-operated service, has been halted on the National Highway, Delhi-Kathmandu Route, causing significant disruption to road transportation. Buses are currently stranded at the check post, and the Transport department has decided to suspend all trips until Monday, with the possibility of resuming services if the situation improves.

The Delhi-Kathmandu Maitri Bus Sewa operates six days a week, with Delhi Transport Corporation buses running on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while Nepal's Manjushree Yatayat operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The service carries approximately 1,000 passengers per month, with an average of 34-69 passengers per bus.
