‘Kanda Express’, Buffer Stocks Expected To Ease Onion Prices In Delhi

New Delhi has seen a decline in onion prices, offering relief to consumers, after the government released buffer stock into vegetable mandis and the Centre's Kanda Express arrived. The Kanda Express, a hybrid transport model using both railway and road transport, carries a consignment of 800 tonnes of onions from Nashik in Maharashtra to major consumption centers, including Delhi.

Farmers can purchase the onions at a subsidised rate of Rs 35 per kg through NCCF, NAFED, Kendriya Bhandar, and other retail outlets. Onion traders in East Delhi's Ghazipur vegetable market reported that the arrival of the 'Kanda Express' onions would provide much-needed relief to the public from rising onion prices. Prices in Delhi have dropped to around Rs 35 per kg for the best quality onions, compared to previous rates of Rs 50-60.
