Juwaidi sets sights on elusive Asian Games individual medal

NILAI: Renowned Malaysian compound archer Juwaidi Mazuki is on a mission to secure his first individual medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya, after going without one at all four previous editions. The 38-year-old, who has claimed two bronze medals in the men's team compound event, aims to match the achievement of Malaysia's 2023 Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka, where he won his first individual bronze and ended a decade-long wait for podium success at Asian Championships.

Juwaidi, a decorated compound archer with eight SEA Games gold medals, is confident his meticulous preparation, particularly in ensuring his equipment and shooting parameters are well-set, will be key to his success. He also believes that training in South Korea for the two weeks prior to the Nagoya Games will help the team focus solely on their preparation and avoid distractions.

Juwaidi is optimistic about his partnership with Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh in the mixed team event, despite fluctuations in their recent form due to a reduced international competition schedule. He acknowledges that while there is potential for gold, a significant amount of work remains for them to secure the top spot in the final two to three weeks before the competition.
