India may send second-string squad for Asian Games over Japan facilities

India may opt for a reserve cricket team at the Asian Games in Japan due to dissatisfaction with the accommodations and facilities, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Asian Games will run from September 19, with the men's cricket tournament scheduled from September 24 to October 3, while the women's event will take place from September 17 to 22.

The Board is unhappy with the current arrangements and plans to send an observer to Japan to evaluate the facilities. Based on the observer's report, India could choose to send either its strongest team or a second-string squad. Concerns have been raised about temporary tents used as dressing rooms, with washrooms located about 500 meters away, as well as the size of hotel rooms, which the source described as "really small" for players.

India previously fielded a strong squad, led by Shreyas Iyer, which included Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. The final selection may depend on the BCCI's assessment of the facilities in Japan, with a decision expected after the board receives the observer's report.
