John Boadu Files NPP National Chairman Nomination

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has officially submitted his nomination for the party’s National Chairman position. Boadu, who presented his nomination at the NPP’s national headquarters in Accra, was joined by several party officials and former MPs who expressed their support for his candidature. Boadu appealed to party delegates to vote for him, emphasizing his extensive experience and track record as the most suitable candidate to lead the party.

Boadu outlined his plans for rebranding the party, strengthening internal security, empowering grassroots structures, and positioning the NPP for victory in the 2028 election. He suggested that the party would rebuild its structures and ensure the protection of its members during elections, in contrast to the era when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) engaged in unethical practices. Boadu also criticized the NDC for failing to fulfill promises, such as the 24-hour economy and the fight against illegal mining.

The former NPP General Secretary reminisced about the party’s historic victory in the 2000 general election, during which the NPP overcame significant doubts to defeat the ruling NDC. He highlighted the party’s eight-year administration under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, which introduced social intervention programs and led to the discovery of oil. However, Boadu noted that after 2016, the NDC campaigned on promises of improvement, which ultimately led to the NPP’s loss of power.

Boadu acknowledged the contributions of key party figures in the 2016 victory, including Sammy Awuku, Nana Akufo-Addo, Rita Asobayire, and Freddie Blay. He emphasized the need to strengthen party structures, organize effectively, and empower polling station and electoral area executives to secure a win in the 2028 election. Boadu’s primary goal is to help the NPP secure a majority of parliamentary seats to support the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
