Japan’s Foreign Ministry Plans to Open 4 New Diplomatic Missions

The Japanese Foreign Ministry intends to establish four new diplomatic missions, according to recent reports. These new posts will be located in Dallas, Nigeria, Malaysia, and Guyana. The decision to open these missions stems from the growing number of Japanese businesses operating in these regions, prompting the ministry to enhance consular support, particularly for the safety and protection of Japanese citizens residing or traveling in these areas.

In the United States, the ministry plans to increase its diplomatic presence by establishing a consular office in Dallas, raising the total number of Japanese diplomatic posts in the country to 19. In Nigeria, a consulate general will be set up in Lagos, while in Malaysia, a consular office will be located in Kuching. Additionally, a branch office will be opened in Guyana. These plans will be included in the ministry’s personnel and structural requests for the upcoming fiscal year.
