Jammu and Kashmir gets new intel chief — in officer who supervised Vyapam probe

Jammu and Kashmir has appointed M K Sinha as its new intelligence chief, replacing Nitish Kumar. Sinha, a 1996-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the J&K Police. He previously served as the Joint Director of the CBI and also supervised the investigation into the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. Sinha is currently posted as Additional Director General of Armed Police in the J&K Police.

Sujit Kumar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, will take over as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Valley, replacing V K Birdi who has been sent on central deputation. Kumar has previously worked as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police for Central Kashmir and DIG, CID.

Tejinder Singh, who was the IGP for Kashmir, has been transferred to become IGP for Jammu. Bhim Sen Tuti, who was posted as Inspector General (HQ), has been replaced by Singh. Singh has earlier worked as SSP Jammu and DIG of Police for Poonch-Rajouri.

Other notable transfers include the appointment of 2002-batch IPS officer Uttam Chand as IGP for Railways, replacing Vivek Gupta who has been posted as IGP for Security. Shakti Kumar Pathak, a 2009-batch IPS officer, has been designated as Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
