I pay ₦6.7bn debt monthly, have borrowed nothing since 2023 — Kaduna gov

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has revealed that his administration has not taken on any new loans since assuming office in May 2023, despite paying approximately ₦6.7bn monthly to service debts inherited from previous governments. Speaking to Channels Television's Politics Today, Sani emphasized the importance of prudent management of available resources, stating, "Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed one kobo."

The governor further explained that the state currently spends about ₦6.7bn each month to meet the financial obligations inherited from past administrations. "It’s about being prudent," Sani said, adding that the administration carefully chooses where to invest funds. The decision not to borrow new funds was driven by the administration's focus on prioritizing expenditure and directing resources towards areas with the most significant impact on residents.

Sani also highlighted his government's achievements in various sectors, including agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development, and security. In education, the administration has identified around 550,000 out-of-school children through a household-mapping exercise. Over 300,000 of these children have since been enrolled in schools, while efforts are ongoing to enroll the remaining pupils.
