I pay ₦6.7bn debt monthly, have borrowed nothing since 2023 — Kaduna gov

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has revealed that his administration has not taken any new loans since assuming office in May 2023, despite paying approximately ₦6.7 billion monthly to service debts inherited from previous governments. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani emphasized the importance of prudent management of resources and careful consideration when investing funds.

The governor stated that he has not borrowed a single kobo since taking office, choosing instead to allocate available resources towards areas with the most significant impact on the residents. Kaduna currently spends around ₦6.7 billion every month to meet inherited debt obligations. Sani defended his administration's approach, highlighting investments in agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development, and security.

Through a household-mapping exercise, his administration identified about 550,000 out-of-school children in the state, with over 300,000 children successfully reintegrated into classrooms. The governor also attributed progress in these sectors to increased revenue and tighter financial management, enabling Kaduna to fund projects without resorting to additional borrowing.
