'I am so done with this': Google Messages bug that's driving users crazy is finally acknowledged by Google

Google's messaging app, Messages, has been plagued by a group chat bug that has left users frustrated. The issue causes group chats to split into separate threads, even though the same participants remain in the conversation. This seemingly minor glitch can make it nearly impossible to keep track of ongoing discussions, rendering the group chat functionality useless.

According to various reports, including Android Authority, the bug has been causing users to create multiple concurrent group chats, each with its own message history. This haphazard splitting of threads has left users confused and exasperated, with many taking to Reddit to vent their dissatisfaction. Users have described the problem as frustrating, irritating, and downright weird.

Google has now acknowledged the issue and is actively working on a fix. A Google representative confirmed on Reddit that the team is actively investigating the problem and urging affected users to submit feedback through the Google Messages app. To do this, users need to open the app, tap their profile picture, go to Help and feedback, and then Send Feedback. The feedback should include the hashtag #splittingthreads to help Google identify the issue.

While Google has acknowledged the bug, there are currently no known workarounds for users who are affected. The first reports of this issue emerged about three weeks ago, and it appears that multiple phone models are impacted, although many users seem to have recently switched devices. In the meantime, users are left with little choice but to report the issue to Google and wait for a fix to be rolled out.
