Hong Kong police officer arrested after allegedly sending indecent messages, images to female friend of suspect

A Hong Kong police officer has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after allegedly sending explicit messages and images to a female friend of a suspect he was investigating. The 32-year-old officer from the New Territories South regional crime unit was apprehended in Tuen Mun last week. The matter came to light when the woman, a friend of the suspect, reported the officer's actions to the police on May 12, 2025.

The officer has been charged with one count of misconduct in public office and has been suspended from duty. He appeared at Shatin Magistrates' Courts on Friday morning. The police force emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards officers engaging in illegal activities. The arrested officer was affiliated with the Kwai Tsing police district.

Misconduct in public office can result in up to seven years' imprisonment and a fine determined by the court.
