‘His legacy will live on’

Legendary Winnipeg high school basketball coach and influential educator, Jeff Laping, died at the age of 54 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Known for his ability to connect with everyone he met, Laping touched the lives of many as a friend, confidant, and mentor. With a career spanning over 30 years, he coached the Crabbers' varsity basketball team for 25 years, leading them to five conference championships, four provincial titles, and 12 provincial final appearances.

His players went on to play at the U Sports level, and he also coached two teams to provincial football championships. Laping's impact extended beyond the court, as he was a dedicated teacher, serving as an English teacher and later vice-principal at St. Paul's. As a coach, Laping was admired for his ability to build strong relationships with his players, helping them both emotionally and on the court. His legacy will undoubtedly live on through his players and the countless lives he touched.
