Hadi closes door to PAS mending ties with Bersatu

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has firmly shut the door to the idea of re-establishing ties with Bersatu, despite both parties still being part of Perikatan Nasional (PN). Hadi cited Bersatu's decision to stand alone in the August 1 Negeri Sembilan state election and its plans to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming Melaka state polls as the reasons for his stance.

In a statement to Utusan Malaysia, Hadi remarked, "In principle, (Bersatu) fought us in the Negeri Sembilan polls, and now, they want to be with PH." The relationship between PAS and Bersatu had become increasingly strained towards the end of last year, ultimately leading to PAS terminating their political cooperation in June. Following their split, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin accused PAS of steering the opposition coalition in the wrong direction and rendering it toxic.

In the Negeri Sembilan polls, Bersatu campaigned under its own name, facing significant setbacks as PN emerged victorious, forming the state government in partnership with Barisan Nasional.
