This month, George Lombard Jr. etched his name into Yankees history by becoming the first shortstop in franchise lore to commit an error in six straight games since Roger Peckinpaugh's performance in 1915. The 21-year-old rookie, who made his major league debut with a homer, set the dubious record during Thursday night's 5-1 defeat against the Houston Astros.

After his most recent miscue, Lombard lamented, "It’s not acceptable. It can’t happen at this level." The error occurred on Thursday when Yainer Diaz's grounder caromed off Lombard's glove, allowing Christian Walker to score from second base. The ball ricocheted to third baseman José Caballero, who was held accountable for a throwing error as he tossed to first base, enabling Walker to score Houston's fifth run.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the issue, stating, "The one today, it’s kind of that in-between ball. So you’re like, is the third baseman getting there? Is he not?
