Five killed as military vehicle crashes into Taraba market

A military vehicle belonging to the Forward Operating Base Wukari crashed into traders in Peva Market, Takum local government council, in Taraba state on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of five people and multiple injuries. The military vehicle was escorting traders as part of security measures following a series of kidnappings and killings in the region.

Tony David, a resident providing an eyewitness account, reported that the victims were displaying their goods along the roadside when the military vehicle allegedly lost control and rammed into them. The bodies of the deceased and injured were taken to Takum General Hospital for treatment. The incident has prompted calls for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

There are also unconfirmed reports suggesting the driver of the military vehicle may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, though this has not been independently verified. Lieutenant Umar Mohammed of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and ASP Victor Mshelizah of the Taraba State Command are currently looking into the matter.
