Fernandez’s Chelsea future uncertain as Alonso seeks commitment

Enzo Fernandez has sparked speculation regarding his potential transfer to Manchester City, but so far, no prospective buyer has met Chelsea's reported valuation of £120 million ($163 million) for the midfielder. Manager Xabi Alonso revealed that he seeks players who demonstrate a strong desire to represent Chelsea, indicating that Fernandez may not feature in Sunday's match against Brighton.

The Argentine defender was substituted in the 3-2 win over Fulham, which secured a convincing start for Alonso during his tenure with Chelsea. Alonso emphasized the importance of players feeling motivated and prepared, while also acknowledging that Fernandez is a talented player. Chelsea has invested heavily in recent transfers, bringing in players such as Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Valentin Barco, Pep Chavarria, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha, and Geovany Quenda, with club acquisitions costing over £300 million.

Additionally, Aston Villa's goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, is anticipated to join the Blues to replace Robert Sanchez, who has been a source of errors. Alonso expressed satisfaction with the recent player departures, including strikers Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson, as it helps address the club's financial sustainability requirements and aligns with their strategic plan.
