Far-right British provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos arrested by US immigration enforcement

U.S. Immigration officials arrested British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos on Thursday in New Orleans, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The official announcement came on Friday, stating that Yiannopoulos was apprehended at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport for overstaying his visa, which he had entered legally in May 2019 via New York City.

A final order of removal was issued by an immigration judge on July 22 after Yiannopoulos missed his scheduled hearing, as reported by a DHS spokesperson. Immigration officials emphasized that Yiannopoulos "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws," according to a DHS spokesperson's statement.

The Department of Homeland Security's online detainee locator does not disclose Yiannopoulos's current location, directing family and legal representatives to the agency's office in Alexandria, Louisiana, a primary deportation hub for international flights. Information regarding Yiannopoulos's legal representation remains unclear, as his representatives did not respond to a request for comment.

Yiannopoulos, a British national, last worked for rapper Kanye West, whose performance in New Orleans is scheduled for the following evening. Known for championing conservative causes and often adopting provocative stances against feminism, Islam, and immigration, Yiannopoulos notably advocated for a 20-year ban on immigration, as he expressed on the social media platform X last year.
