‘False and baseless’: Teo Nie Ching rejects social media claims linking her to Johor gang activity, lodges police report

KULAI, August 28 — Deputy Communications Minister and DAP national vice-chairman Teo Nie Ching vehemently denied recent allegations on social media that she was involved in gang-related activities in Johor and a recent road accident under investigation. She emphasized that these claims were false and baseless, noting that new social media accounts had been created to make such accusations against her.

With over 18 years in politics and 13 years as an MP, Teo explained that meeting someone once or twice or having photos taken in an ordinary social setting does not equate to involvement in criminal activities. The police, including the Johor Police Chief, had already held a press conference announcing the arrest of 13 suspects.

Teo expressed her support for a comprehensive police investigation into the matter. She warned the public about the dangers of fake news and advised them not to believe information on social media without verifying its authenticity. Teo, who also serves as Johor DAP chairman, urged people to think rationally, investigate first, and lodged complaints with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as well as a police report.

However, she acknowledged that shutting down accounts or deleting posts lies with Meta and not all fake news can be removed promptly. Yesterday, Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang filed a police report at the Kulai District Police HQ over defamatory posts and false allegations linking Teo and the DAP to a gang.
