Edo @35: Okpebholo Urges Edo Citizens to be United, Committed to Building Stronger State

Edo Governor, Okpebholo, called on the citizens of Edo State to maintain unity and dedication towards constructing a more robust and prosperous state during its 35th anniversary. In a statement, Okpebholo emphasized the occasion as a "celebration of unity, resilience and shared progress." He reaffirmed his administration's dedication to advancing development via the SHINE Agenda, acknowledging the efforts of previous administrations, traditional institutions, the private sector, and other stakeholders.

Reflecting on Edo State's inception on August 27, 1991, from the now-defunct Bendel State, Okpebholo highlighted the need to evaluate the state's progress, build on past achievements, and recommit to its growth. He noted that Edo's 35 years encompass both accomplishments and obligations, with the task of converting assets into tangible improvements in the lives of its citizens.

The governor reported that his administration had intensified collaboration with security agencies to curb criminal activities while prioritizing healthcare through facility upgrades and medical worker training, particularly at primary healthcare centers. Education remains a critical focus for the administration, with increased subsidies to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and Edo State University, Uzairue, aimed at strengthening institutions and enhancing teaching and learning quality.

Okpebholo highlighted ongoing road rehabilitation projects, the construction of the first flyovers in Ikpoba Hill and Sapele Road, Benin City, and urban renewal initiatives to improve cities and communities across the state.

Additionally, the administration is expanding power generation and improving electricity supply, citing the 100-megawatt power project at Ologbo and the associated infrastructure at the Taihu Industrial Park. This focus on energy aims to alleviate electricity constraints, attract investments, support businesses, and generate jobs for Edo residents. Okpebholo urged Edo people and stakeholders to continue supporting the government, stating that the state's future depends on collective commitment to taking concrete actions.
