Disney catches global Pokémon rights, greenlights new stop-motion series

Disney has recently secured global distribution rights for the Pokémon brand from The Pokémon Company, according to a new report in Variety. The deal encompasses all Pokémon shows, including the recently announced stop-motion series, "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures Of Sirfetch'd & Pichu." The news was shared during the Pokémon XP event in San Francisco, which is described as "Comic-Con but only for lightning rats and balloons that want to drag children off to hell."

This follows the launch of the original Pokémon TV series, now titled "Pokémon The Series: The Beginning," on DisneyXD. The new deal also includes a fresh teaser trailer for "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures Of Sirfetch'd & Pichu," a stop-motion animation show created by the team behind Wallace & Gromit. The show's plot revolves around pocket monsters navigating the Galar Region, assisting their fellow Pokémon.

While the narrative may not be of primary interest, the prospect of seeing beloved Pokémon characters brought to life through stop-motion animation is highly appealing. The series is set to premiere in 2027.
