England in total control at Lord’s after Pakistan crumble

Ollie Robinson delivered a sensational performance, dismissing Pakistan for just 110 as they collapsed to an innings defeat against England in the second Test at Lord’s on Friday. The young fast bowler claimed a remarkable four wickets for just 11 runs in just 13 overs. Jofra Archer spearheaded the attack, taking 3-26, while Josh Tongue added 2-27 after Pakistan's opener Azan Awais made a crucial 30 not out.

Pakistan's batsmanship faltered, with only opener Azan Awais managing to score 46; he was dropped on 8 by Harry Brook. Saud Shakeel contributed 16 runs, while no other Pakistan batsman managed to make double figures. Pakistan's innings finished in just 37.2 overs, with Imam-ul-Haq unable to bat following a calf injury he sustained while fielding on Thursday.

Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue had earlier frustrated Pakistan with a 47-run partnership of the tenth-wicket. England's Archer disrupted Pakistan's bowling with a first ball wicket when a 91 mph delivery from Shan Masood edged to wicket-keeper Jamie Smith. Tongue followed up with a last ball catch by the same fielder, eliminating Abdullah Shafique.

England's captain Babar Azam made a swift start with a boundary off Tongue's delivery through the covers. Azam, recovering from a finger injury, managed two more boundaries before being caught behind by a diving Jordan Cox. Pakistan found themselves 30-3, trailing England's first innings score of 290 by 180 runs. The situation appeared dire for Pakistan, who had previously suffered a crushing defeat in the previous Test at Headingley.

However, the much-needed recovery came from Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan, both dismissed by Robinson. Archer showcased his lethal pace when he dismissed Mohammad Abbas, and England ended the day at 248-9, holding their nerve despite early setbacks. The match resumed under sunny skies on Friday, with Atkinson and Tongue continuing their strong performance.
