BMC Hospitals Face Scrutiny Over Patient Care As Officials Inspect Rajawadi, Jogeshwari Trauma Centre And Cooper Hospital

Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals are facing intense scrutiny over patient care issues, including delayed treatment, alleged staff misconduct, and insufficient facilities. The Health Committee’s chairman, Harish Bhandirge, visited Rajawadi Hospital following the tragic deaths of three newborns within a single day.

The administration revealed that two fetuses had died in the womb at 37 and 33 weeks, while a third newborn, delivered via C-section at 40 weeks and two days, suffered bradycardia and passed away approximately two hours later.

Bhandirge met with hospital doctors and officials to discuss the three deaths and instructed officials to prioritize timely emergency care and the strict application of medical protocols. In another inspection, Mayor Ritu Tawde visited Jogeshwari Trauma Care Hospital and examined various departments, including the registration center, emergency department, ICU, and others.

She personally tasted the hospital food and, upon finding it unsatisfactory, ordered immediate improvements. Tawde also demanded sufficient manpower and dedicated doctors for the hospital’s neurosurgery department.

Separately, BJP MLA Amit Satam raised concerns over poor patient treatment at Cooper Hospital. He alleged that some hospital staff members had behaved rudely and disrespectfully towards patients. Satam sent a letter to Mayor Ritu Tawde and BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, requesting staff training in soft skills and communication, additional security personnel, expansion of the dialysis center, acquisition of digital X-ray machines, and prompt commencement of the chemotherapy center.
