Bentley Torcal: Das kann der erste Elektro-Bentley

Bentley plans to unveil its first electric vehicle, the Torcal, within the year at its Crewe plant in the United Kingdom. This will be the fourth standalone model in the British manufacturer's portfolio, alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. Bentley describes the Torcal as an "Urban SUV," a reference to the dramatic rock formations of El Torcal de Antequera in southern Spain.

The vehicle is powered by the 800-volt electric platform PPE developed by the Volkswagen Group, which is also utilized in the Porsche Cayenne Electric and Audi Q6 E-Tron. According to information from British magazine Autocar, two electric motors with a combined output of around 625 kW/850 PS will be installed in the Torcal. A 113-kWh battery pack is expected to provide a range of approximately 600 kilometers.

The vehicle's noisy interior is modeled after the sound of V8 engines. To reduce weight, the Torcal is expected to weigh around 2.7 tons. It will feature a double-camber air suspension system, rear axle steering, and active roll stabilization. Despite its weight, Bentley aims for the Torcal to convey the dynamic character of a Grand Tourer rather than an SUV.

The vehicle will offer four driving modes - Bentley, Comfort, Sport, and Refresh - which will influence lighting, sound, climate control, air quality, and digital displays. The Refresh mode will provide increased airflow and brighter light to combat fatigue.

Bentley is also experimenting with new materials. In collaboration with the textile specialist Fox Brothers, a durable fabric made from Merino wool has been developed. Additionally, an "Ombré Veneer" made from walnut remnants and recycled paper, as well as an aluminum surface inspired by historical Bentley components, will be used. Classic materials such as leather and wood will remain available. While prices are expected to start around 200,000 Euros, Bentley has not yet announced the final technical specifications.
