B.C. Conservative Leader Findlay says recording doesn’t show criminal offence

B.C. Conservative Party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay dismissed claims that a recording suggests she offered jobs in exchange for legislators' resignations to run in a byelection. Findlay described the accusations as "preposterous." The recording, released on social media, allegedly features a voice similar to Findlay's proposing job offers for legislators if they stepped down.

Findlay stated that the comments were "normal political discussions" and not a criminal offence, as negotiating benefits related to resignation from political office is illegal under the Criminal Code. Police were aware of the recording but have not confirmed or denied any investigation. B.C. RCMP also stated they would not comment on the investigation until charges are laid.

Findlay plans to host a press conference on Monday with the B.C. Conservative caucus, which has seen a significant number of members resign in recent weeks.
