Assam Police constable dies by suicide at Guwahati quarters, probe on: Police

A 47-year-old Assam Police constable, serving as the personal security officer (PSO) to a senior IAS officer, took his own life at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) residential quarters in Guwahati on Thursday evening, according to police. The constable, a Lance Naik-ranking officer, allegedly shot himself in the head with his service pistol and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Police stated that the investigation into the incident is still in its preliminary stages, and the motive behind the act remains unclear. The constable was reportedly alone at his quarters when the incident occurred, and his family members were out of Guwahati at the time. Locals claimed he was seen calmly walking to a local pan shop around 7 PM, but it has not been confirmed if he was on a phone call at the time of the shooting.

Police are investigating the claim but have not released further details. The constable's colleagues expressed surprise at his decision, noting that he appeared calm and normal throughout the day. The family has been informed of the incident and has been asked to come to Guwahati for further proceedings.
