Abia at 35: Deputy Speaker Kalu Commends Peace, Security, Democratic Gains, Progress Made So Far

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, extended his congratulations to the government and people of Abia State on the 35th anniversary of the state. Abia was created on August 27, 1991, as part of the old Imo State. In a statement, Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, commended the government and the people for maintaining peace, enhancing security, and fostering trust in democratic leadership.

He highlighted that Abia has remained largely peaceful and safe, emphasizing that peace and security are essential for development, growth, and investment. The Deputy Speaker also praised the consistent efforts of various administrations, both military and civilian, to improve the state over the years, attributing the progress achieved to the combined contributions of past and present leaders.

He specifically commended the current administration, led by Dr. Alex Otti, for placing a priority on security and good governance, including the establishment of an Air Force Office in Umuahia, the state capital. Kalu also appreciated the government's promotion of bipartisan political collaboration, exemplified by the approval of Certificate of Occupancy for federal projects such as the Industrial Court, Renewed Hope Housing Projects, and new educational institutions, advanced through legislative interventions by the Deputy Speaker.

These and future developments in the state are expected to attract investment, generate employment opportunities, and improve infrastructure, benefiting Abia greatly through continued cooperation between the federal and state governments. The Deputy Speaker also recognized the ongoing efforts in the payment of pensions and gratuities to state workers, viewing it as a duty the government must continue to fulfill to honor those who have served the state diligently.
