'A very frightening time': US terror tag endangers UK Palestine Action activists, critics say

The United States has designated the UK-based Palestine Action as a transnational terrorist organization, raising concerns among activists and critics about the potential impact on British supporters. The move follows Washington's decision to place proscription on the group in July, which is set to be challenged in the UK Supreme Court in November.

Former Palestine Action member Max Geller, a US citizen residing in the UK, expressed fear about sudden de-banking and increased scrutiny of financial transactions. Co-founder Huda Ammori warned that the economic sanctions could impose an additional burden on activists, as reliance on Western institutions is deeply tied to the US financial system.

There are also concerns about heightened surveillance and intelligence sharing between London and Washington, potentially exposing supporters to risks. Seven protesters arrested for vandalizing Trump's Scottish golf resort in March 2025 may face charges with a "terrorist connection," potentially leading to severe penalties and treatment as terrorists.
