[속보] 특검, ‘헌법재판관 미임명’ 한덕수 징역 5년 구형

Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Yun Seok-jeol former President, handed down a 5-year prison sentence on Han Duk-su former Prime Minister due to charges of misconduct in his duties and misuse of authority related to the case of internal war. SIT requested the court to sentence Han Duk-su to 5 years in prison during the hearing which lasted from 10 am on 28th of this month at Seoul Central District Court's Criminal 33rd Division (Judge Lee Jin-gwan).

Insufficient confirmation process led to the nomination of 3 candidates for the Constitutional Court judges - Ma Eui-hyeok, Jeong Gyeon-seon, and Jo Han-chang - by Han Duk-su without their consent, on grounds that 'consensus is required between the two parties.' Han Duk-su claimed that his nomination as Constitutional Court judge was an issue, leading to his impeachment at Constitutional Court, and subsequently reinstated as Acting President.

During this period, SIT also charged Han Duk-su with violating the authority of the official responsible for personnel review. This charge was also applied to the former secretaries and other officials involved in the process of selecting the two candidates for Constitutional Court judges. The two candidates were subsequently dismissed after President Jae-myung's resignation in June last year.

Meanwhile, the former Vice Prime Minister Kim Joo-hyung received a 4-year prison sentence. The case of 'improper trial progress' is under review by the Supreme Court's Panel if it raises concerns over fairness in the trial of the other two defendants, and these proceedings have been temporarily halted. No sentence has been delivered to the former Vice Prime Minister as of today.

The same charge of being a witness against the Acting President is also applied to the former Vice Prime Minister.
