21 Nepal flash flood survivors from TN safely arrive in Delhi

Twenty-one Kailash Manasarovar Yatra pilgrims from Tamil Nadu who survived a flash flood in Nepal's Rasuya region have arrived safely in Delhi, according to wire material. The pilgrims were part of a larger group of 57 people who embarked on the journey on August 24 via a travel agency based in Kumbakonam. Two out of the three buses carrying the pilgrims were swept away in the flood, leaving 36 people missing.

The surviving pilgrims were initially housed in camps at an Armed Police Force outpost in Timure, about 160 km north of Kathmandu. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar received the group upon their arrival at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, expressing his gratitude to the Nepali Army and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu for their rescue efforts.

A four-member team of state ministers, including Aadhav Arjuna, A Rajmohan, R Vinoth, and Thangam Thennarasu, had arrived in New Delhi to oversee the return of over 80 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu who were stranded in Nepal due to the disaster. The team met the rescued pilgrims and discussed the ongoing rescue operations with foreign secretary Vikram Misri.

One of the 21 returnees, Navu Kabirdoss, mentioned that there were 40 more people from the group still unaccounted for, while the state minister Rajmohan stated that around 83 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry remained missing. In a subsequent state assembly announcement, Rajmohan revealed that 106 pilgrims, including three from Puducherry, had ventured to Nepal for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra in multiple groups.
