2027: ‘Young traders have gone bankrupt, I’ll reopen all borders’ – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has pledged to reopen all borders in the northern part of Nigeria ahead of the 2027 election. In a video speech to supporters, Atiku expressed concern over the impact of border closures on young traders in the region, alleging that many have become bankrupt and unemployed as a result.

He stated that the unemployment caused by the border closures has also led to a surge in the security crisis in the area. Atiku emphasized that the young men and women involved in trans-border trading between the northern states and neighboring countries such as Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Benin Republic were engaged in a legitimate business. He reiterated his commitment to reopening all borders if elected president in 2027.
