10 Torontonians reported missing in devastating flooding in Nepal, non-profit says

Ten Torontonians are among the missing in the devastating flooding and mudslides in Nepal, according to a regional non-profit. The death toll from the disaster has surpassed 500, with an additional 1,500 people still unaccounted for. The Isha Foundation, a spiritual group based in India, reported that 10 individuals from Toronto arrived at the Nepal-China border just minutes before the flooding struck at 9:05 a.m. local time.

Global Affairs Canada has previously stated that at least 30 Canadians were missing near the Nepal-China border. China's state media reported 558 people missing on their side of the border. The flooding is believed to have been triggered by a glacier collapse, which caused a massive flow of debris downstream, resulting in catastrophic impacts.

This seismic event occurred on August 26 at 8:37 a.m. local time, with a magnitude 5.2 rating initially reported as an earthquake but later determined to be caused by the glacial collapse. Experts believe that the warming climate has weakened the glaciers' adhesion to the rocks, increasing the likelihood of such avalanches.
