10 Torontonians reported missing in devastating flooding in Nepal, non-profit says

Ten Torontonians are among the missing in Nepal following devastating flash floods and mudslides, according to a regional non-profit. The death toll has now surpassed 500, with an additional 1,500 people reported missing. The Isha Foundation, a spiritual organization based in India, confirmed that 10 individuals from Toronto were among the missing.

They arrived at the Nepal-China border at 9:05 a.m. local time, coinciding with the beginning of the flooding around 9:00 a.m. Canadian authorities have previously reported that at least 30 Canadians were missing near the Nepal-China border. Over 500 people are dead, and others are still unaccounted for. The flooding and landslides are believed to have been triggered by a falling glacier that caused a catastrophic collapse high in the Himalayas.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 5.2 seismic event near the border between Nepal and Tibet on August 26 at 8:37 a.m. local time. This event, initially thought to be an earthquake, was later determined to be caused by the glacial collapse, resulting in the flow of debris and triggering the deadly floods.
