Who is Deogratius John Ndejembi, the Minister poised to become Tanzania’s vice-president?

Deogratius John Ndejembi is a man poised to become Tanzania's next Vice-President. His nomination, endorsed by the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, marks a significant step in his political career. Ndejembi, initially from the private sector and ruling party structures, has had a diverse journey in politics. He has held positions within CCM structures, including membership of the party's National Executive Committee, General Council and the National Council of the CCM Youth League.

His transition into government administration began in 2016 when he was appointed District Commissioner for Kongwa in Dodoma. In 2020, Ndejembi was elected to Parliament representing Chamwino on a CCM ticket, and his parliamentary career became intertwined with government responsibilities. He served in various Cabinet positions, including Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office responsible for Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, and Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development.
