‘We Are Nervous!’ — Rockstar Knows the Pressure on GTA 6 To Be a Success

GTA 6 is the subject of worldwide anticipation, and Rockstar knows the immense pressure it faces to be a success. During a recent visit to Rockstar North, IGN had the opportunity to speak with Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North. When asked about the pressure, Nelson laughed and said, "No pressure." However, he added, "I try not to think about it.

You’re aware of it, of course. But I think we just have to try and make something that we feel is innovating on what we’ve done previously, evolving it while still making it feel familiar."

Rockstar is aware that each piece of information about GTA 6 is scrutinized thoroughly. The extended look video debuted on Netflix provides the biggest insight into the game's world, characters, and gameplay. Each frame needs to be perfect, with every detail likely to be featured in a list of game secrets. Nelson explained, "It’s a hard thing.

As much pressure as we feel externally, I don’t think it can compare to the pressure we put on ourselves as a team. Everyone wants things to be perfect. We are nervous! Nervous, of course, but also excited to see how people respond to this video and then ultimately the game."

While the number of GTA 6 pre-orders is unknown, it's known that most players opted for the more expensive $100 ultimate edition. The publisher's CEO described it as a "bargain," as Rockstar Games is known for over-delivering. Rockstar has built on the series' legacy with GTA 6, which features a "Very Big Map" and a complex world.

The game maintains the series' satirical humor but is careful with its jokes. The developers considered four protagonists before choosing a criminal couple, Jason and Lucia, whose Bonnie and Clyde-style relationship is optional.
