‘Was there an invitation?’ Anwar questions Azmin’s claim he was invited back to PKR

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was left wondering whether former Deputy President of PKR, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, received an invitation to rejoin the party. "Was there an invitation? I was not informed," Anwar declared during the launch of the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo (Nice 2026) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The question arose after Azmin's recent decision not to return to PKR, following his call for "veterans or 'otai Reformasi' to return to the party." Azmin, who had left PKR in 2020 amidst a political crisis leading to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government, reportedly had no plans to return. Anwar, who assumed the PKR presidency, affirmed the party's open doors for former leaders and reformists seeking to contribute to its reform agenda.

Anwar joined other PKR leaders who departed in February 2020, sparking the political turmoil known as the Sheraton Move.
