UK airports cyber attack: Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands customers’ data accessed; passenger safety unaffected

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has disclosed that a cybersecurity incident resulted in unauthorized access to customer data at Manchester, Stansted, and East Midlands airports. The affected data pertained to car park, lounge, and Fast Track bookings, as well as in-airport Wi-Fi registrations. MAG swiftly contained the incident and has been collaborating with experts and authorities since.

The compromised information does not include bank or payment details, as MAG confirmed. Despite the breach, MAG assured that passenger safety and aviation security were not impacted, nor did the incident cause any operational disruption at the three airports. MAG has notified the relevant authorities and is actively cooperating with them during the resolution process.

The airports collectively handle tens of millions of passengers annually, with Manchester Airport serving over 32 million travelers, Stansted Airport handling more than 30 million, and East Midlands Airport registering approximately 4 million passengers in the past year. MAG emphasized that customer information security is a top priority and expressed regret for any concern or inconvenience caused by the breach.
