Uefa to push to remove Infantino after dropping boycott

The 55 member associations of European football, together with European members on the Fifa Council, are set to receive a letter on Thursday, confirming that the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan will not be revived. This guarantees the lifting of the boycott threat from Uefa, allowing the Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup to proceed in Poland next week with six European teams participating.

BBC Sport understands that Uefa is confident a unity candidate can be found to stand against Infantino in the upcoming re-election in March. However, passing a vote of no confidence would require a significant majority of 159 votes, which is considered highly unlikely. Former players have also recently called for change at the head of Fifa, with a statement asserting the need for change.

Despite this, a group of supportive former players has expressed their continued backing for Infantino and his contributions to the game. The removal of the boycott threat has been seen as a relief for the six European Women's Under-20 teams, who had been in uncertain circumstances, but could also be viewed as a victory for Infantino, making it more likely he will remain in power for the time being.
