Trump renames Lake Ontario, mulls renaming oceans

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America, according to Reuters on August 27. Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes situated at the border between Ontario, Canada and New York, USA. This proposed name change was prompted by the collapse of trade between Washington and Ottawa, resulting in retaliatory tariffs and deteriorating relations between the two countries.

President Trump announced this decision in the Oval Office, stating, "We're going to be changing the name of Lake Ontario effective immediately to Lake America. The Lake of America has been something I've been thinking about for a long time." The president also proposed renaming the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, saying, "We have a Gulf of Mexico, and we have a lake, now all we need is an ocean, so maybe we'll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific; maybe we'll change them both."
